Smoky, sweet, tender pulled pork that shreds with a fork. Brilliant in rolls, wraps, or on its own with slaw.

Ingredients

  • 1.5kg pork shoulder (bone-in or boneless)
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 150ml BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 100ml cider or apple juice
  • Salt and pepper

Method

  1. Mix the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Rub all over the pork.
  2. Place the onion in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Sit the pork on top. Pour the cider or apple juice around it.
  4. Cook on Low for 9-10 hours until the meat pulls apart easily.
  5. Remove the pork, shred with two forks, and mix with the BBQ sauce and some of the cooking juices.
  6. Serve in soft rolls with coleslaw.

Tips

Don’t skip the rub — it creates an incredible crust of flavour. Leftovers freeze brilliantly for quick midweek meals.
