A classic British pairing. Sweet apple and savoury pork in a cider sauce — perfect for autumn.

Ingredients

  • 500g diced pork shoulder
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 carrots, chunked
  • 2 eating apples, cored and quartered
  • 250ml dry cider
  • 1 chicken stock cube dissolved in 100ml water
  • 1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
  • 1 tsp dried sage
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • Salt and pepper

Method

  1. Toss the pork in flour, salt, and pepper.
  2. Layer the onions, carrots, and apple in the slow cooker.
  3. Add the pork on top.
  4. Mix the cider, stock, mustard, and sage. Pour over everything.
  5. Cook on Low for 6-8 hours until the pork is tender.
  6. Serve with mashed potato and greens.

Tips

Bramley apples will dissolve into the sauce (great for a thicker result). Eating apples hold their shape better.
