Rich, savoury mince filling cooked in the slow cooker. Just add mash on top and grill for a perfect cottage pie.

Ingredients

  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 carrots, finely diced
  • 100g frozen peas
  • 1 beef stock cube dissolved in 250ml water
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried mixed herbs
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • Salt and pepper

Method

  1. Brown the mince in a frying pan and drain off fat.
  2. Add the mince, onions, and carrots to the slow cooker.
  3. Mix the stock, tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, and flour. Pour over the mince.
  4. Cook on Low for 6-8 hours.
  5. Stir in the frozen peas in the last 30 minutes.
  6. Transfer to an ovenproof dish, top with mashed potato, and grill until golden.

Tips

Make extra filling and freeze it in portions. Then you just need to defrost, top with mash, and grill — midweek dinner in 20 minutes.
